Read &#8217;em, get busy, and good luck!<\/p>\n<p><center><strong>Mistake 1: Expecting it to happen right away.<\/strong><\/center><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you tried very hard to prevent pregnancy when you were younger, you might be surprised to find that it doesn\u2019t happen immediately when you stop using contraception. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But for a couple with no underlying fertility issues, it can sometimes take <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/12923157\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">up to a year<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to get pregnant.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.avawomen.com\/avaworld\/ava-fertility-survey\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2017 survey<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of 1,000 women conducted by Ava, 83% of women underestimated the amount of time it would take to conceive. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the few evidence-based ways to shorten time to pregnancy is to accurately time intercourse around ovulation\u2014the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.avawomen.com\/order-fertility?utm_source=mothermag&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_campaign=mothermag2022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ava<\/a> bracelet is a great option for this.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><center><strong>Mistake 2: Trying too late.<\/strong><\/center>Many couples focus too much on the day of ovulation. This is not the only, or even the best, day to have sex if you want to get pregnant. <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the best chances of getting pregnant, you want sperm to already be ready and waiting in your Fallopian tubes at the time of ovulation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To accomplish this, ideally you should have sex at least once during the 2 to 3 days just before you ovulate. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you track your fertility using LH tests, you may be missing some of the most fertile days of the menstrual cycle. LH tests typically provide only about 24 hours warning before ovulation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.avawomen.com\/order-fertility?utm_source=mothermag&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_campaign=mothermag2022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ava<\/a> bracelet identifies 5 fertile days per cycle, letting you take full advantage of your peak fertility.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><center><strong>Mistake 3: Using special lubes when you don\u2019t need them.<\/strong><\/center>Some couples mistakenly believe that specially formulated fertility-friendly lubricants can boost their chances of conception. But t<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">here is some evidence from laboratory settings that conventional lubricants can harm sperm. Fertility-friendly lubes are <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/24390681\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">less harmful<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to sperm than conventional lubes. But \u201cless harmful\u201d is not the same as helpful!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you usually use lube during sex for comfort or pleasure, it\u2019s probably a good idea to switch to a fertility-friendly one when trying to conceive. But if you don\u2019t usually need lube, there\u2019s no reason to start.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><center><strong>Mistake 4: Focusing on things that don\u2019t matter.<\/strong><\/center><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lots of people start buying special tinctures, teas, vitamins, or supplements to boost fertility. But most of the time, the evidence for these remedies is lacking.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is one thing you can do to dramatically boost your chances: accurately timing intercourse around the fertile window of the menstrual cycle. This <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nejm.org\/doi\/full\/10.1056\/NEJM199512073332301\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">doubles the chances<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of conception.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><center><strong>Mistake 5: Symptom spotting.<\/strong><\/center><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s common to wonder if every headache, cramp, or twinge is a sign of pregnancy. But most women don\u2019t experience any signs of pregnancy until <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk\/documents\/NVP-lit-review.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">6 weeks of gestation<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, or 2 weeks after the missed period.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Implantation, which occurs before your missed period, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.avawomen.com\/avaworld\/implantation-bleeding\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">does not cause bleeding, cramping, or other symptoms<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you feel lots of strange symptoms in the days before your period is due, you\u2019re not going crazy! You can blame the hormone progesterone.
